Is Social Media Marketing Worth It?
Social Media Marketing

Social media usage continues to grow and shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. According to Search Engine Journal, more than 4 billion people worldwide used social media in 2021. That amount is projected to reach 6 billion by 2027.
That statistic alone shows that social media marketing is worth taking seriously and investing in as part of your marketing strategy and budget.
The 2023 Social Media Marketing Industry Report shows that 86% of marketing professionals claim that social media marketing gives them more exposure, with 73% reporting that it increased website traffic, and 64% claiming it generated valuable leads.
Where To Begin
We know social media is a worthwhile part of a well-rounded marketing strategy. However, it does take time to cultivate and ensure you get the results you need for your business.
The best place to start is to consider your overall marketing goals and which goals social media marketing could help you achieve.
For example, if your goal is to increase sales overall, Facebook typically gets better results than LinkedIn or Instagram (this will vary by industry, so be sure to do your research!).
If you want to increase your business’ exposure, making the general public more aware of your company and the services or products you offer, Instagram is likely going to be the most effective platform for you.
Your social media marketing efforts should also be influenced by whether you’re selling directly to consumers or other businesses.
For example, LinkedIn is often the most effective way to reach directly to other businesses, while Facebook is ideal for reaching directly to consumers.
Pay Attention To Trends
Social media platforms grow and adapt over time, meeting new demands and needs of their users. It’s important to pay attention to how engagement on these platforms changes so you don’t risk spending money on marketing tactics that are no longer effective.
Hubspot reports the top ten social media trends every year, and that’s a great place to start. Some are unique to specific platforms like Instagram while others are trends they see unfolding across a variety of platforms.
The biggest trend they’ve seen change in the past year has been the importance of building an active social community. It’s not enough to just share status updates, you need to engage with your audience to be successful using social media marketing.
No matter what platform you’re using to promote your business, connecting authentically with your potential and existing customers is vital.
The Benefits Make Social Media Marketing Worth It
Social media marketing still works, it just looks different than it did 10, 5, or even 2 years ago. The benefits that targeted, informed social media marketing can bring include:
- Increase Sales
- Generate Qualified Leads
- Grow Website Traffic
- Build A Fanbase/Online Community
- Expand Awareness Of Your Brand
